Pupils of third class recently entered the U10 Community Games Handwriting Competition. We were very lucky to have four winners of gold and silver medals:  Moya S. Hazel C., Dara G. and Patrick S. We chose a story from our English readers and wrote it out in our nicest handwriting. Then we signed it and dated it. Our stories were ‘Dublin Zoo’, The Magic Horse, Chinese New Year and A Hairy Story.

Fourth and Fifth class girls were in a Camogie Tournament on the 23rd January in Ballyea N.S. Three teams arrived on the day. First we played the Gaelscoil. The score was 5-1 to the Gaelscoil. Next we played Scoil Chríost Rí. The score was 5-1 to Ballyea. Finally we played Tuamgraney N.S. The score in the end was 4-1 to Ballyea. The Gaelscoil came first, Ballyea came second and Tuamgraney came third and last but not least Scoil Chríost Rí came fourth. It all turned out to be a great success and everyone enjoyed the day.

Our Christmas Concert was on Thursaday 15th of Decemeber. It was a great success. Everything from singing to dancing was on show. Each class performed plays or songs for 15 minutes. This included The Wriggly Nativity by Juniors, Ups a Daisy Angel by first class, The Innkeepers Breakfast by second class and The Fright Before Christmas by Ms Cleary's class. All costumes were very effective and showed what the play was about. A D.V.D of the concert can be obtained from the school office. We hope you enjoyed our shows. In preparation for Christmas, the whole school is engaging in an 'Advent Giving Tree' project. As part of this, each child may take a leaf from the branches of the tree with the name of a grocery item on it.  They then bring in the item (or similar item) to form part of a hamper which will be sent to Clare Haven House. Clare Haven House provides support and accommodation to women and their children experienceing domestic violence/abuse. The project is completely optional and children are not under any obligation to participate. Items which appear on the tree include: tinned foods, shampoo, shower gel, toothbrushes, toothpaste, nappies, nappy bags, wipes, soothers, hairbrushes etc. If your child brings home a leaf and you are unable to find such an item then feel free to purchase another from the list above.

Sixth Class students travelled to the University of Limerick last week to meet an astronaut! We were brought to a theatre to meet him, his name was Greg. He showed us a video from when he was in space. He told us all about the space shuttle and how it was made from different sections. There was an American part, a Russian part and a European part. He was the pilot of the space craft and they had to go 28,000 kilometres to break through the Earth's gravitational pull. We really enjoyed our trip as part of Science Week.
